I propose that the American Psychiatric Association should add a new disorder to its DSM (Diagnostic Manual). Call it the "Apologist's Disorder."

Examples of Apologist's Disorder:
-- Cosby apologists still defending Bill Cosby, and blaming his victims.
-- Obots and Hil-bots, no explanation necessary.
-- Confederate apologists, "slaves were happier when they had cotton to pick."
-- Syriza apologists ("they didn't have a mandate to leave the Euro, boohoohoo. The deal isn't done yet, just wait and see.")

The Apologist probably feels the need to identify with some rich, powerful, or famous person or organization in order to compensate for their own weak identity and self-esteem. Any attack on their hero is perceived as an attack on the apologist's personal identity so it does no good to try to reason with them.

Mostly it is country worship, although superstar worship is a growing part of this strange illness. People can't bring themselves to accept that their country is extremely violent and criminal. The idea that your own country is not pure and godly is disturbing to many. They end up making up all kinds of absurd excuses for the way their country acts. It really is a mental disorder.

Examples of country worship:
-- The disintegration of Iraq has nothing to do with the invasion.
-- The growing jihadi violence has nothing to do with the western demolition of Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, etc.

Example of wealth worship"
-- The rich don't hinder the economy: they are wealth and job creators.

And in a lot of case that country is 'Europe'. There'a an awful lot of 'end timers' sticking with the EU to the bitter end. And there will be no second coming for them either.
