Robert DeNiro is worth hundreds of millions, but he wants everyday hard-working New Yorkers to pay for his film festival. He can well afford to pay for it himself.
He's complaining because Mayor DeBlasio is not giving him the "support" he wants. That support boils down to money.
DeNiro tries to rationalize the city giving him money with some made up on the fly economics:
“There’s a lot of economic development that comes with the festival, and jobs,” the film producer added. “Festivals like Toronto and Sundance get a lot of money from both their states and the city, and we do not have that kind of support here. Plus, we’re in New York City, so there are always things you’re competing with.”
Yeah, bullshit. The only one who likely makes money out of this are DeNiro and his partner, Jane Rosenthal, who had this to say:
“I have no opinion, too [about DeBlasio],” added Rosenthal. “And that should tell you what my opinion is.”
Oooh...snide.
