What happens on monday trading if the rumors of Putins overthrow by Ivanov turn out to be true? I was mostly ignoring the story until a couple hours ago when the heavy armor and stuff started happening around the Kremlin.
Something else changed too, the troops rolling into Ukraine are openly wearing russian patches and many units openly displaying the Russian flag where before they were all unmarked.

Could turn out to be nothing, but could roil markets on open if something is cleared up pretty soon.

An Ivanov coup has been rumored as a possibility for some time. Were it to happen it would be bad news. However, there is nothing in my feed about it and a search only turns up rumors.

Sergei Ivanov Returns to Center Stage April 2013

‘Conspiracy Of Generals’ Could Lead To Putin’s Ouster March 12, 2015‘Conspiracy Of Generals’ Could Lead To Putin’s Ouster March 12, 2015 (This is from The Interpreter, which has a strong anti-Putin pro-Western bias. I don't regard it as a very reliable source.)

The worst news for the world is that were Sergei Ivanov to come to power, he is a nationalist hardliner on defense even though he is moderately an economic liberal like Putin, but less so than the sitting prime minister Dmitry Medvedev who is considered his rival. But few now see Medvedev as strong enough to be a credible successor to Putin or to challenge him. The opposite with Ivanov.

Ivanov seems to have accepted the Bush Doctrine of a preemptive nuclear first strike for Russia, too. If Ivanov were to assume charge the likelihood of war in Europe increases, as well as tactical and strategic nuclear war.

5 Russian Nuclear "Weapons" of War the West Should Fear

Regardless of whether rumor is true, and it still seems to be a rumor as far as I can see, Ivanov is widely viewed as Putin's successor either when Putin steps down or "retires." There really is no one else on the presidential scene who is considered a serious contender but Ivanov and Ivanov has already been seen as Putin's likely successor for some time.

Putin is regarded as less nationalistic and aggressive than Ivanov. If Ivanov were to replace Putin it would signal that the hardliners have assumed control and intent to confront the US and NATO rather than adopt Putin's strategy of appearing to the reasonable person pursuing a peaceful solution while the US rushes to war all around the world, leaving a mess wherever it goes. Or as Putin put it, Everything the US touches turns to shit.

Been checking and most of the stuff is rumors on tabloids. The only "serious" place I found anything was Bloomberg View where Leonid Bershidsky repeats the rumors and concludes that Putin is a dictator.

Supposedly Putin is in Switzerland for the birth of his "love child" with his girlfriend. Story here.

The story/rumor has been making the rounds of the tabloid press for several days, along with the Ivanov coup, etc.

From the Post:
Other speculation about what’s behind Putin’s vanishing act range from health problems to a power struggle in the Kremlin. Peskov’s poetic denials – and the Kremlin’s reputation for obfuscation — did little to tamp down the persistent questions.

Still waiting on reliable sources.
