Examiner — 8 best Facebook political debate groups

3. MMT Deficit Owl USA Committee (www.facebook.com/groups/MMTDeficitOwlCommittee)
Though the Deficit Owls have a more specific charter – discussing economics and Modern Monetary Theory – their threads are among the best political discussions you’ll find anywhere. Peppered with real experts and post-graduate degrees, the 636 members are not afraid to write a short thesis on why deficit reduction harms the economy while targeted stimulus debt does not. If you enjoy reading Paul Krugman and Thomas Friedman, you’ll love hanging out with this gang. It’s like taking a graduate level econ course with no final exams. Beware: repeat visits will cause your IQ to go up.

Why isn't the Facebook group public? Why do you have to give up your personal data to Zuckerberg to read it?

It was initially private to limit the trolls. Since then it has exploded. But since it is a private group in can be monitored and moderated and trolls can be excluded.

A lot of the interesting stuff now is on FB and Twitter rather than blogs.

The problem with public groups is that comments/posts on them appear on your timeline so all your friends can see/comment on them.

Matt Franko, a lot of MMT fans are not fluent in English and even when they are, the prefer communicate in their own language. I know MMT fans who are not members of that group.

Even MMT fans who speks English and use facebook are not necessarily members, they prefer to use facebook for other purposes etc.
